Maui police arrested three residents following an investigation into the sale of stolen Maui Bus passes.
The investigation stemmed from a report made by personnel with the county Department of Transportation who indicated that an unknown individual was selling stolen $4 Maui Bus passes for $2 online.
Police say members of the Crime Reduction Unit and officers with the Wailuku Patrol Division were able to find the passes for sale on a social media site.
According to police reports, arrangements were made on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to meet at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, and an officer in plain clothes was able to purchase the bus passes from a suspect, identified as Cole Santiago, 23, of Wailuku.
Santiago was placed under arrest, but further investigation also led to the arrest of Mikail H. Honokaupu, 23, of Waiehu, and Anthony Davis, 53, of Wailuku, for alleged involvement.
All three suspects were arrested and charged with third degree theft, and were released after posting $200 bail each.
Police say they were able to recover 31 Maui Bus passes valued at $124.
