Dorvin & Betty Leis to be Honored with MACC Lei of Distinction
By Maui Now Staff
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will present the esteemed Lei of Distinction award to Dorvin and Betty Leis during a reception on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
The Gala Dinner and Award Presentation will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Yokouchi Pavilion.
First presented on the 10th anniversary of the MACC in 2004, the Lei of Distinction is the highest honor that the Maui Arts & Cultural Center bestows upon individuals with exceptional vision.
The award also recognizes those in the community for their talents that exemplify, inspire and enable creative endeavors in the arts and education.
This latest award comes on the MACC’s 20th Anniversary, and is being presented to Maui philanthropists Dorvin and Betty Leis.
The two were honored in 2003 with the Outstanding Philanthropist award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Aloha Chapter.
Dorvin Leis is the founder and chairman of Dorvin D. Leis Co., Inc., the largest mechanical contractor in the state of Hawaiʻi.
The two have donated funds for the advancement of sustainability initiatives at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College and are credited with a $1 million commitment to UHMC, the largest gift to the college at the time.
In recognition of their contribution, the school’s fine dining facility was named “The Leis Family Class Act Restaurant” in their honor.
