Maui police officers responded to reports of an organized retail theft at a Wailea retail complex Tuesday evening, where three suspects allegedly stole luxury items valued at over $80,000. Two male suspects—an 18-year-old from Miami and a 15-year-old from Lahaina—were detained; while a third suspect, identified as a male juvenile, fled the area and remains at large.

The Maui Police Department arrested three more teens in connection with the ongoing investigation into the assault and riot that occurred on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the pool area of Kāʻanapali Aliʻi, located at 50 Nohea Kai Drive in Lahaina. This brings to seven the total arrests made to date in connection with the case.

Maui police are investigating an assault involving dozens of individuals reported in West Maui earlier this month. The initial call was for a disorderly incident involving approximately 30 people, reported at around 10:06 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the pool area of Kāʻanapali Aliʻi, located at 50 Nohea Kai Drive in Lahaina.

A 49-year-old Lahaina man was found guilty of eight counts each of first degree sexual assault and third degree sexual assault following a two-week trial. The unanimous verdict against Roberto Omar Morales Andrade, was reached on July 16, 2026, after less than two hours of deliberations in 2nd Circuit Court.

A 43-year-old Pukalani man is in police custody following an alleged burglary on Vineyard Street in Wailuku reported Friday morning.  The man allegedly threatened responding officers before fleeing the scene, and is accused of resisting arrest and assaulting police during the incident.  

A multiagency child recovery operation conducted last week Thursday and Friday, known as “Operation Shine the Light VII,” resulted in the safe location and recovery of 14 children on Oʻahu.

Maui police have launched a second degree assault investigation into an incident that occurred near 270 Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku. Police say an individual was arrested on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and subsequently released pending further investigation.

United States Attorney Ken Sorenson announced that Shota Yamamoto, 29, of Tokyo, Japan, was sentenced yesterday in federal court by United States District Court Judge Micah W.J. Yamamoto pled guilty on Jan. 22, 2026.

A Maui man pleaded guilty in federal court on April 15, 2026, to being an accessory after the fact to a laser-pointer assault on a federal pilot. Jesse Kong, 30, faces up to 6 months of imprisonment for that crime, according to the US Department of Justice.

Hawai‘i Island police have charged 36-year-old Jacob Daniel Baker of Pāhoa with numerous offenses, including multiple murder counts.

A 40-year-old Kīhei man identified as Congressional candidate Kirill Basin, was placed under arrest Friday for first degree Terroristic Threatening after he allegedly entered a county building off of Main Street in Wailuku while brandishing a firearm and engaged in a verbal altercation with county employees, police said.

The Maui Police Department is alerting the public to a scam circulating via text message that falsely claims recipients have a delinquent traffic violation account and appears to originate from the District Court of Hawaiʻi.

According to court documents, the defendants conspired to pay bribes and kickbacks to a county housing employee in exchange for his agreement to use his official position to ensure that the county approved three affordable housing agreements benefitting the defendants’ development companies.

A verdict has been reached in the trial of a Maui doctor. The jury deliberated about 8 hours before coming to a unanimous decision at around 2:18 p.m., finding the defendant guilty of attempted manslaughter based on severe mental or emotional disturbance. This is a lesser charge than the second degree attempted murder allegations brought against him.
