After undergoing extensive repairs and renovations, Lānaʻi Fifth Street Courts will reopen Thursday, Dec. 18, as a multipurpose courts facility that includes pickleball, tennis, volleyball and basketball, the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced.

Kā‘anapali Golf Courses has donated $10,000 to support the University of Hawaiʻi men’s and women’s golf programs, continuing its financial support of UH student-athletes for a third consecutive year.

The 2025 Kaʻapuni Basketball Tournament begins Wednesday, Dec. 3, with games hosted at Baldwin High School’s Jon Garcia Gymnasium and Seabury Hall’s Erdman Athletic Center. The tournament runs through Saturday, Dec. 6, and brings together one of its strongest fields yet, featuring six teams entering the season as reigning league champions.

The Maui Classic, one of the premier women’s basketball tournaments in the nation, returns to Maui for its 9th annual event on Dec. 19–20, 2025.

To cap the night, Zedekaiah Campbell scored his 22nd touchdown of the season on a 16-yard run that put him over the 1,000-yard mark for rushing on the season and broke the school record that he set last year.

Baker-Mazara, whose 23-point performance led the Southern California Trojans to an 88-75 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils, also won the tournament last year with Auburn before he transferred to USC.

Kahului resident Anson Cabello has punched his ticket to the Sony Open in Hawai‘i after winning the Hawai‘i State Golf Association’s amateur qualifying event at Waiʻalae Country Club on Monday.

After a landscape-changing announcement on Monday morning of a $50 million NIL agreement between the Big 12 Conference and the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, Dr. Tom Buning, Chaminade director of athletics, acknowledged they may have to consider the same to keep the Southwest Maui Invitational college basketball tournament that Chaminade hosts annually at the Lahaina Civic Center in the mix of top early-season multi-team event tournament destinations. 

Kiara Goold and Finn McGill claimed wins Saturday in pumping 8- to 12-foot surf at the HTA Sunset Pro, a men’s and women’s World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 2,000-level event featuring many of Hawaiʻi and Tahiti Nui’s top rising talents.

More than 150 youth players were at the event Sunday at Maehara Stadium, one day after the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa baseball team held a youth clinic at Hitter’s Paradise Indoor Training Facility in Kahului that featured 120 youth players.

Iapani “Poncho” Laloulu and Fa’anu Ma’o were always close growing up, Laloulu on O’ahu and Ma’o on Maui, but they grew closer as Ma’o’s mother, Failagi Laloulu Ma’o, battled breast cancer that first hit her in 2017 when Fa’anu was 9 years old and Poncho was 13.

Three Maui golfers — Anson Cabello of Kahului, Reagan James Miles of Kīhei and Tyler Loree of Kula — are among the 12 amateurs selected to compete in the 2026 Sony Open in Hawaiʻi Qualifier on Nov. 24 at Waiʻalae Country Club.

HMSA has announced that applications are now open for the 21st annual Kaimana Scholarship Program, which recognizes Hawai‘i high school seniors for excellence in academics, athletics and community service.
