Runners will be using the shoulders of Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30) and Kahekili Highway (Route 340) for the Kahakuloa Half Marathon on Saturday, June 6. The event will be from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and start at D.T. Fleming Beach Park on Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway in Kapalua. It will then connect with the county-owned portion of Kahekili Highway and proceed to Kahakuloa Village.

The County of Maui’s Hoʻokipa Beach Park lived up to its billing as a world-class surfing venue with solid waves both days, being labeled by several spectators and officials as the perfect “surf stadium” for the historic Hawaiʻi High School Athletic Association’s inaugural state surfing championships on May 1 and 2, 2026. HHSAA Executive Director Chris Chun said the event will return to Hoʻokipa in 2031 as part of a five-year rotation.

Spectators for the inaugural Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Surfing State Championships (HHSAA) will only be allowed to access Ho’okipa Beach Park via free HHSAA event shuttles from the parking lot off Holomua Road on Friday and Saturday, the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced.
