Flood Warning Posted for Maui Until 10 p.m.; Advisories Issued for Maui, Lānaʻi

FLOOD WARNING POSTED THROUGH 10:00 P.M., 8/25/15

At 7:48 p.m. radar showed heavy rain near Honokōwai. A line of heavy showers is also producing heavy rains near Olowalu and Lahaina. The areas of heavy rain were nearly stationary. The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Warning for the island of Maui through 10 p.m.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Nāpili, Kapalua, Kahakuloa, Honolua and Honokōhau.

FLOOD WATCH EXTENDED FOR STATE UNTIL 6 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, 8/26/15

The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Watch for the state until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015.  Forecasters with the NWS say, “a very moist and unstable air mass remains over Hawaiʻi.”  The moisture is interacting with island terrain.  This, in addition to daytime heating, is expected to produce “localized, intense, and slow-moving heavy rains.”

LANAI FLOOD ADVISORY UNTIL 8:15 p.m. 8/25/15

A Flood Advisory has been extended for the island of Lānaʻi until 8:15 p.m. The National Weather Service says radar at 5:54 p.m. showed heavy rain near Lānaʻi City. The rain was making a slow move toward the east. Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Kaiolohia or “Shipwreck Beach” and Koele.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Lānaʻi until 6:15 p.m.  At 3:08 p.m., radar showed heavy rain from Mānele Bay to Lānaʻi City.  The National Weather Service says additional rain could develop over the next several hours.

MAUI ISLAND FLOOD ADVISORY UNTIL 10:15 P.M. 8/25/15

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 10:15 p.m.  The NWS says radar at 7:12 p.m. showed heavy rain near Lahaina (about 13 miles west of Kahului).  According to forecasters, the rain is associated with a line of heavy shower approaching from the west.  The line was moving east at about 10 mph.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the island of Maui until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015.

Forecasters with the NWS say radar at 1:24 p.m. showed heavy rain stretching across the north and east facing slopes of Haleakalā with rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour.

The forecast indicates that rain may spread down to the coastal areas over the next couple of hours.

There is also a Flood Watch in effect for all of the Hawaiian Islands until 6 p.m.

The NWS states that other locations in the Flood Advisory area include: Hāna, Pukalani, Kaupō, Huelo, and Haʻikū.

The public is reminded to stay away from streams and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised not to cross fast flowing water in their vehicle or on foot.
