UPDATE: Capobianco Caught With Contraband at MCCC

The Hawai‘i Department of Public Safety reported that an undisclosed contraband item was confiscated.
It is pending investigation.

A male inmate at the Maui Community Correctional Center was caught with contraband in his possession yesterday at approximately 6:45 p.m.
The inmate is identified as Steven Capobianco.
The item, wrapped in black tape, was recovered by correctional officers during visitation hours at the facility.
Capobianco was arrested by Maui Police and faces possible contraband possession-related charges. The contraband incident is under investigation by the Maui Police Department.
“I commend our staff for their fast work in responding to a suspicious incident, and discovering the contraband quickly and efficiently,” said Public Safety Director Nolan Espinda. “Staff did everything they were trained to do.”
Maui Now has contacted the Hawai‘i Department of Public Safety regarding the exact nature of the contraband and will post more information as it becomes available.
Capobianco is a pending trial for Murder 2 and Arson 2. He is incarcerated at MCCC, awaiting sentencing for those charges.
