The Piʻilani Hwy (31) in East Maui remains is now OPEN as of 1 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 after flooding washed out a section of road between Mile 29 and 30 in Nuʻu.
Maui police Lt. Gregg Okamoto tells Maui Now that some tourists got caught between the two rivers, but were able to get out safely. Some of the stranded individuals tell us they were stuck overnight.
The area was closed from 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 while cleaned-up and repairs were conducted.
