A total of 380 numbered applications were picked up during the Lottery Application Week for the County of Maui’s new Kulamalu Hale affordable family housing project.
The 56 unit affordable family rental housing complex is located in the Kulamalu Town Center in Pukalani, Maui, Hawaiʻi. The project consists of 16 one-bedroom/one bath units and 39 two-bedroom/one bath units (and one manager’s unit).
According to Hale Mahaolu, 258 applications were returned before the deadline to determine pre-qualification for entry into the lottery, and 380 lottery numbers were pulled and assigned in order to the corresponding application number.
Hale Mahaolu’s Kulamalu Hale Management Team of Danie-Lyn Oliveira and Ann Makekau, along with County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns representative Gille Petersen were on hand to pull the numbers.
Letters have been mailed to each applicant advising them of their lottery number draw and will include interview appointment times for the first round of qualifying applicants to begin the formal qualification process. Those who are not selected for initial occupancy will be placed on the wait list in the order their lottery number was pulled.
The project is still under construction and estimated move in is targeted completion date to mid-to-late August.
Hale Mahaolu Executive Director Roy Katsuda expressed his appreciation to the opening team on the coordination and execution of the application launch. “With a very short window of time, we saw a tremendous response from the community demonstrating the need for affordable rental housing.” said Katsuda. “From individuals, young families and seniors, all are seeking an affordable place to rent. Those who comprise the initial occupants will be lucky indeed to live in a brand new affordable rental complex in a beautiful community.”
Carol Reimann, Director of Housing & Human Concerns said, “We are pleased that the Maui County’s Kulamalu Hale project will soon be coming to fruition; and that 56 local families will soon have affordable rental units in Pukalani.”
