The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua hosts the 27th Annual Celebration of the Arts on April 19 and 20, 2019.

Held annually, the free event celebrates Hawaiian culture through interaction with artisans, cultural practitioners, workshops, films, hula performances, food and music.

Hawaiian feather art, Ni’ihau shell lei making, Ohe hano iho (Hawaiian nose flute), printmaking, kapa making (Hawaiian bark cloth)and primitive fired clay will be some of the demonstrations offered by more than 40 different artists.

5:45 to 6:30 a.m. – Honokahua Beach – (DT Fleming Beach)

An annual tradition of the Celebration of the Arts. Chants are offered by all to the rising sun. Attendees should bring swimwear and towels. Note: Photography and video is prohibited.

Awa Ceremony

8 to 8:45 a.m. – The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Hawaiian practitioners and hotel executives sit on the sacred mat to sip the bitter waters of Kane pledging support to all things Hawaiian. Participation by invite only, however public viewing is encouraged. Note: Photography is prohibited.

 

Opening Protocol

9 to 10 a.m. – Lobby, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Traditional chants of genealogy and the islands are expressed by practitioners asking permission to be a part of the Celebration of the Arts. The Namahana Award of Excellence will be presented to kupuna who have dedicated their lives to serving the culture.

Celebration of Island Tastes 

6 to 9 p.m. – Aloha Garden Pavilion, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

A feast of island spices and dishes from traditional Hawaiian to contemporary blends. Families gather to share their favorite recipes while Hawaiian music and hula will set the atmosphere for a great evening to please every palate. Na Wai ‘Eha, Maui’s newest talent will return to the stage at Kapalua. Ticket pricing coming soon.

8:30 to 10 p.m. – Celebration After Hours

The long anticipated CD Release party for Maui’s own “Ahumanu!” Joining their angelic harmony and musical skills will be one of Maui’s (and the state’s) hottest new bands, Na Wai Eha.  And…another up and coming group called Kuikawa.  All this combined with the hula skills of Halau Hula Na hanona kulike o Pi’ilani; Pa’u of Hi’iaka; Kamaluokaleihulu: and Kekuaokala’au ala ‘iliahi!  This segment will be CLASSIC.

Easter Brunch 

Enjoy an expansive Easter Brunch in the famed Ānuenue Room. The menu includes locally sourced items, some from our very own organic garden on property, Hawaiian themed dishes as well as traditional brunch items.
