The Department of Parks and Recreation announced that a project to re-plaster and do deck repairs to the Kokua Pool will begin this month, closing the pool through late December.

The pool located at the Kahului Community Park complex has been closed since last month as part of the closure of public park facilities mandated by COVID-19 public health emergency rules.

Work on the pool improvement project is scheduled to begin May 18. The project is set for completion by Dec. 29. Aquatic Solutions Hawaii LLC is the contractor for the $363,000 project.

The project will include the re-plastering of the swimming pool and concrete repair of the pool deck and pool shell. Swimming pool repairs will include the removal of existing swimming pool plaster and the installation of waterproofing, plaster and tile finish. Pool deck work includes repairs to concrete cracks and damaged concrete, installation of control/expansion joint sealing and sealing of the pool deck.

The department asks the public to remain outside of the construction area for safety precautions. For more information, contact Cheryl Akiona, Parks CIP Coordinator, at [email protected] or (808) 270-7388. For general parks and recreation information please visit www.mauicounty.gov/parks.
