Hawai‘i’s Price Among List of Trump-Appointed US Attorneys Being Asked to Resign Amid Biden Transition

US Attorney for the District of Hawaiʻi, Kenji M. Price, is among a list of Trump-appointed US Attorneys that are being asked to step down as the Biden Administration begins its transition process in the Department of Justice.

Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson, instructed most appointed US Attorneys to submit their resignations, asking that they be effective Feb. 28, 2021.

“We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition. Until US Attorney nominees are confirmed, the interim and acting leaders in the US Attorneys’ Offices will make sure that the department continues to accomplish its critical law enforcement mission, vigorously defend the rule of law and pursue the fair and impartial administration of justice for all,” said Acting Attorney General Wilkinson in a press release issued on Tuesday.

Wilkinson notes that earlier this year, nearly all presidential appointees from the previous administration offered their resignations, though US Attorneys and US Marshals were asked to temporarily remain in place.

Prior to the beginning of this US Attorney transition process, Wilkinson estimates that approximately one-third of the US Attorneys’ Offices were already led by acting or interim leadership.

A spokesperson with the US Attorney’s Office in Hawaiʻi said the office is taking all necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition.

President Biden will make announcements regarding his nominations to the Senate of new US Attorneys as that information becomes available.
