Gov. Ige Appoints Linda Ann Ha‘i Clark to Fill District 13 House Seat for Maui County

Governor David Ige today announced the appointment of Linda Ann Ha‘i Clark to fill the state House (District 13) seat, which includes Haʻikū, Hāna, Kaupō, Kīpahulu, Nāhiku, Pāʻia, Kaho‘olawe, Lāna‘i, Moloka‘i and Molokini.

Clark replaces Sen. Lynn DeCoite, who was appointed last month to the state Senate (District 7) seat formerly held by J. Kalani English who retired from his longtime post.

Clark currently serves as an independent process server for the Child Support Enforcement Agency, State of Hawai‘i. She has previously worked as an administrator, office manager and clerical worker for Alternatives to Violence, First Hawaiian Bank, and Maui Windows and Doors. She was also the owner/operator of Kupono and Friends Day Care Center from 1996-2003.

Clark is currently the president of Kaupō Community Association and has served on the Hāna Advisory Committee and as a leader for 4H Maui.

She was raised on a cattle ranch and is a proud wife, mother of four grown children, and grandmother of three.

“I am extremely grateful for the appointment. I’d like to thank Gov. Ige for entrusting me. I’d also like to thank Sen. Lynn DeCoite and outgoing Sen. Kalani English for their years of service. I look forward to meeting my constituents as soon as possible,” said Clark.

The Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi extended its congratulations to Clark.

“We look forward to working with Rep. Clark on the issues which matter most to her and the district, including sensible management of tourism, affordable housing for local residents, jobs, and food security,” said Tyler Dos Santos-Tam, Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi.

“I would like to congratulate Linda Clark on her appointment. As a farmer, she has first-hand knowledge of agriculture and water issues, which are so important to House District 13. Her record as a community leader and volunteer shows her dedication to the community,” said Stephanie Ohigashi, Chair of the Maui County Democratic Party.

“Linda Clark has been an active member of our party for years. She is in touch with our residents’ needs, and I know she will work hard for our unique ‘canoe district.’ I thank all of the Democratic Party members who participated in the nomination process, as well as Governor Ige for making this selection,” said Jonathan Starr, Democratic Party District Chair for House District 13.

Clark will take office once the state House qualifies her and the oath of office is administered.
