Maui Humane Society’s 4EverPets program was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to help financially impacted pet owners with the basics for their animals to prevent surrender.

For many Maui residents who suffered job loss during the pandemic and delays in receiving unemployment, feeding and caring for their own human family was a primary concern.

“It was devastating for families to have to give up their pets during this stressful time when they felt they had no other choice,” said Steve MacKinnon, CEO of Maui Humane Society. “Preserving the human-animal bond and keeping pets in homes is one of our organization’s priorities.”

The 4EverPets food bank has distributed nearly 100,000 pounds of food across the County, but supplies now are running extremely low.

To meet the need, the Maui Humane Society is organizing a donation drive from Oct. 15 – 30 for food and supplies for dogs and cats. Businesses, schools, community groups and individuals are invited to participate by hosting their own pet food drives on behalf of the 4EverPets food bank.

Participating businesses and groups that host food drives will be invited to bring their donation to the Maui Humane Society at the conclusion of the event to weigh their total donation; take a group picture with the MHS sign for social media; and determine who raised the most contributions.
