Stage 1 Water Shortage Ends for Upcountry, Maui

The Department of Water Supply of the County of Maui has provided notice of the end of the Stage 1 water shortage for water consumers in the Upcountry Maui service area.
The Upcountry Maui service area includes Makawao, Upper and Lower Kula, Haʻikū, Pukalani, Kokomo, Kaupakalua, Ulumalu, Keokea, ʻUlupalakua, and Kanaio.
“Due to recent rainfall, our reservoirs are near capacity and continue to fill. Forecasts call for near normal conditions for rain events into the winter months. Long-range forecasts for surface sea temperatures show trends for normal to slightly below normal surface sea temperatures, which suggests La Niña conditions tending towards higher rainfalls,” according to the department.
The Director of Water Supply thanked Upcountry customers for their support in reducing their water use during the shortage.
The Department will continue to watch supply and demand and the weather forecast to determine if a Stage 1 water shortage would need to be reimplemented.
