The comfort station and a portion of Lihikai School Park in Kahului will be closed to the public from May 13, 2024, until early 2025 for a County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation capital improvements project.

The project will include the demolition of the existing comfort station and the construction of a replacement comfort station that will be relocated on the east side of the park, next to the new Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible parking stalls. A new parking lot also will be constructed, located off Maʻalo Street, with a retaining wall adjacent to the new sidewalk and stairway connections to the upper ballfield area.

The project consultant is R.T. Tanaka Engineers Inc., and the general contractor is Maui Kupono Builders LLC doing business as Manu Builders.

During construction, the public will be able to access the park from Kunu Place and use the basketball court on the north side of the park and the ball field.
