In celebration of Drive Aloha Month this August, DTRIC Insurance will hold its second annual competition to encourage safer driving habits.

“DTRIC is on the hunt for Hawai‘i’s safest driver, and you could be the one to claim the grand prize of $1,000,” the insurance company says in an announcement.

“DTRIC Insurance is committed to promoting safe driving habits across the islands,” said Takuya “Taku” Mitsueda, president and chief executive officer of DTRIC Insurance. “While traffic fatalities have decreased by 2023, we recognize that even one death is too many. We’re hoping to build on the success of last year’s competition and inspire more people to participate. The Drive Aloha Challenge is a fun and impactful way to prioritize safety on the road and help save lives.”

This year’s Drive Aloha Challenge will run Aug. 1-14. Drivers can enter by downloading the Visual Drive app for iOS and Android phones setting up an account, and joining User Group 586893.

The winner will be announced Aug. 16. The winning driver will be the one with the highest score on the Leaderboard at the end of the contest period. For full details and official contest rules, visit dtric.com/drivealohachallenge

Participants can compete with their friends and family, see how they rank with other community members, and improve their driving habits. Visual Drive uses telematics technology to provide feedback to drivers on five metrics for each trip: rapid acceleration, harsh braking, sharp turns, at-risk speeding and phone distraction. The app tracks trips while running in the background on the driver’s smartphone, and users receive a score after each trip, along with tips to improve their rating.
