Kimo Carvalho

Executive director of HomeAid Hawaiʻi, Kimo Carvalho, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting on Tuesday, Sept 17, 2024.

Carvalho will share information about Ka La‘i Ola: A HomeAid Hawaiʻi Interim Housing Development Program for Maui wildfire survivors. Carvalho leads the organization’s mission to build housing solutions for people experiencing homelessness and who are at risk of a housing crisis.

Under his leadership, HomeAid Hawaiʻi is currently the lead developer for Gov. Josh Green’s Kauhale Initiative and Maui Interim Housing Programs aimed at building more than 1,045 homes across Hawaiʻi.

With 17 years of experience in healthcare, human services, and construction, his career has been at the intersection of developing housing solutions and solving socio-economic challenges facing disadvantaged people.

Carvalho will provide an overview of Ka La‘i Ola – West Maui’s largest interim housing development and program since the 2023 wildfires, and a public-private partnership between the State of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, and the building industry. He will provide a status update on construction, area improvements, planned residential services, and long-term plans for the site. He will alsoprovide areas for support and need for potential partnerships and collaboration with Rotarians.

The meeting will be held at the Royal Kahana Maui by Outrigger meeting room located at 4365 Lower Honoapiʻilani Road in Lahaina. The event starts with a meet and greet at 5 p.m., followed by the program which runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
