Dessert-Making Contest Champion Crowned in Makena

The first annual Makena Beach & Golf Resort Holiday Dessert Contest occurred Sunday, Dec. 15.

The competition was sponsored by the Makena Beach & Golf Resort, DaJam 98.3 and Maui Now and 15 brave competitors entered their holiday dessert creations.

According to organizer Charly Espina Takahama, “after five judges were served up the scrumptious delights and judged on overall taste, creative presentation and ease of preparation, they chose The Hawaiian Hulk Avocado Chiffon Pie created by winner Chad Sumida of Wailuku as the ultimate dessert.”

Sumida won an overnight stay at Makena and Christmas brunch for four. In addition, the Hawaiian Hulk Avocado Chiffon Pie will be on the menu at the Molokini Bar & Grille (along with his name) for one year.
