Ask the Mayor: Why Have the County Vehicle Auctions Been Repeatedly Postponed?
Dear Mayor Arakawa,
Q: Why is the county car auction in such disarray with cancelled auction dates and a jam-packed storage area? Why not one every month instead of every two months, and now, who knows after the latest cancellation?
A: The Abandoned Vehicles Auction scheduled for Sept. 18, 2015, was postponed to Sept. 25, 2015, but was later canceled due to unforeseen staffing shortages. Maui County strives to provide this non-mandatory public service on a regularly scheduled basis, although all dates are subject to change.
Every auction requires that a minimum number of trained staff be available to run an auction, and unfortunately, we were not able to guarantee that number on these previously scheduled days. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The next Abandoned Vehicles auction is scheduled for Nov. 20, 2015. Please be sure to call the County’s abandoned vehicles office at (808) 270-6102 or check the “Abandoned Vehicles Auction” webpage at www.mauicounty.gov for the most up-to-date information on these auctions.
