Final Spay and Neuter MASH Clinic for Cats, April 25-29

The final in a series of free Spay and Neuter MASH (Mobile Animal Surgery Hospital) clinics for cats will be held this week at the from April 25-29, 2017 at the Maui Humane Society.

The goal for the final clinic is to spay/neuter 800 cats. All cats are welcome, both owned and feral, and all cats receive a microchip and vaccination at no cost.

Since April 2015, MHS has held thirteen MASH clinics with over 5,600 animals spayed and neutered at no charge to the members of the community (donations are welcome).

The Maui Humane Society hosts the event outdoors, under tents to accommodate an anticipated large volume of pets in surgery and recovery.

Organization leaders say pets receive the same quality care as they would in any veterinary clinic with surgeries being conducted by multiple licensed, professional veterinarians who are highly skilled at performing large numbers of high quality spays and neuters in these settings.

“Having worked at MHS for almost 25 years, I am most proud of being the MASH Medical Coordinator” said Kelley Maguire, Vet Tech Supervisor and MASH Medical Coordinator. “This program has literally saved thousands of lives and it is so wonderful to be part of an event that brings together both local and mainland volunteers to help our community.”

Maui Humane Society has recently expanded their existing vet clinic by more than 700 square feet, thereby increasing the number of free spay and neuter surgeries done on a daily basis with the goal being able to do 6,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually once fully staffed and operational.

This expansion was funded by a grant from PetSmart Charities and will further advocate the Maui Humane Society’s ongoing efforts to reduce the animal homeless population, and to help save more animals lives on Maui.

Having a larger clinic will allow MHS to offer low and no cost spay and neuter surgeries for our community’s animals everyday” said Jerleen Bryant, CEO, Maui Humane Society.
