The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is reopening applications for its fiscal year 2025 Green Grants Program to support sustainability projects in Maui County.

This expansion follows the transfer of approximately $1.7 million in competitive grant funding to DEM’s Environmental Protection & Sustainability Division from the County Office of Economic Development and Office of Innovation. An additional $3.3 million in proviso grants have already been allocated to organizations to manage invasive species, protect wetlands and fund the control of predators at seabird colonies, and support coastal water quality monitoring along South Maui’s coast and protect the Kīhei reef tract.

“We are seeking proposals addressing critical environmental challenges while meeting community needs and priorities, and promoting sustainability across Maui Nui,” said Shayne Agawa, director of the Department of Environmental Management.
