MEO’s chief administrative officer Maggie Batangan earns certified professional credential
Maui Economic Opportunity Chief Administrative Officer Maggie Batangan has earned a certified professional credential from the Society for Human Resource Management, joining the ranks of a worldwide organization dedicated to creating better workplaces.
Society members are experts, researchers, advocates and thought leaders on issues and innovations impacting workplaces. With nearly 340,000 members in 180 countries, the society touches the lives of more than 362 million workers and their families globally.
Preparation for the exam included 40 hours of classroom instruction through the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College and months-long study with other human resources professionals in Hawai‘i. Instructors for the preparation courses included the top human resource experts in Hawai‘i and across the nation.
Class sessions also covered study of the society’s Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge competency framework.
The society’s exam is four hours long and includes 134 questions (80 knowledge items and 54 situational-judgment items). The test questions cover employment law, interpersonal communication, workforce management, organization and leadership.
Batangan took and passed the organization’s exam on Oʻahu on June 7.
“We are so proud of Maggie for joining the ranks of SHRM,” said Chief Executive Officer Debbie Cabebe, a society senior certified professional. “The journey to her SHRM-CP will be invaluable as the head of the MEO’s Human Resources Department.”
Maggie joined MEO in January as chief administrative officer. As the head of Human Resources, she focuses on contract compliance, talent and change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, hiring and compensation.
