The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority has selected 23 events on Maui to receive funding under its County Product Enrichment Program (CPEP) for 2013.

This year, the HTA is funding Kā‘ānapali Fresh, Lahaina Plantation Days, and 3rd Maui Open Studios among others, in an attempt to provide more diversity to Hawaii’s tourism profile for Maui County.

“As part of our marketing efforts to perpetuate and promote authentic and unique experiences on Maui, the HTA has selected CPEP events that reflect the distinction of each island and what makes it a one-of-a-kind destination,” said Mike McCartney, president and chief executive officer of the HTA, in a written statement.

“Our partnership with the County of Maui has allowed us to showcase year-round experiences exclusive to Maui County that highlight our people, place and culture for both residents and visitors to enjoy.”

In line with the HTA’s strategic plan to support Hawaii’s community programs and events, CPEP aims to provide visitors with unique experiences throughout the Hawaiian islands. The HTA, together with the County of Maui and the Maui Visitors Bureau, is working with the recipients to align their programs with the branding set forth by the HTA.

CPEP was created in 2002 as a partnership between the HTA and the counties to strengthen and diversify Hawaii’s tourism product and provide quality resident and visitor experiences.

In partnership with the City and County of Honolulu, and the counties of Maui, Kaua‘i and Hawai‘i, 98 events are to receive funding across the state, according to the HTA.

Through the program, the four counties receive HTA funding and other resources for tourism product enrichment activities to support projects in the niche areas of agritourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism, edutourism, health and wellness tourism, sports, and technotourism in their respective counties.
