ONE MAN DIES IN CAR CRASH NEAR KAHULUI HARBOR
An 83 year old Wailuku man suffered fatal injuries in a two car accident near the Kahului boat ramp on Tuesday. Authorities say Katsuto E. Saiki died the following day after being transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The accident was reported at around 10:33 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the intersection of Kahului Beach Road and the Kahului Boat Ramp entrance.
Saiki was operating a 1991 Nissan sedan and traveling south on Kahului Beach Road when he attempted to make a left hand turn towards the Kahului boat ramp. Saiki’s vehicle collided with a 2001 Toyota Tacoma traveling north on Kahului Beach Road.
The 42-year-old Pukalani man operating the Tacoma was not seriously injured and was treated and released at the scene.
Both operators were wearing seatbelts. The death is the 12th traffic related fatality for 2009 in Maui County, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
