West Maui’s Tastiest Omelets: Courtesy of Java Jazz
By Erica Garza
The eclectic interior of Honokowai’s Java Jazz (Soup Nutz) café may be a bit much at first glance. With a coffee-making station to the far right, live music front and center, a full bar to the left adorned with Barbie dolls and knick knacks, and walls coated with quirky poloroids, the café is a mishmash of sensory delight crammed into a rather small space. But the mishmash doesn’t stop there.
The menu is full of local-approved offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. MauiNow stopped in to sample the breakfast fare and came face to face with a pleasant surprise—West Maui’s tastiest omelets? The eatery opens at 6am seven days a week, granting guests ample opportunity to jumpstart their day with a coffee, latte, chai, or other preferred hot drink along with a substantial meal. Java Jazz additionally offers smoothies for health nuts.
From banana pancakes to french toast and egg dishes, breakfast items at Java Jazz comprise the usual favorites, but the omelets are simply another story. Served with home fries and toast, omelets are made with three eggs, which may not be atypical, but jam-packed with ingredients, these fluffy pockets of deliciousness are enough to keep you satisfied well past lunch. Ingredients range from cheddar cheese to goat cheese to an assortment of veggies and meats. Opt for the Spanish omelet to satisfy a craving for spice, featuring a zesty combination of chorizo, peppers and onions. Or go local and order the Hawaiian omelet, made with pineapple, ham and cheddar cheese for a true island breakfast. Not a bad way to start a perfect island day. No worries, veggie-lovers, the veggie omelet offers a generous helping of greens and cheeses made just for you.
Java Jazz is conveniently located in the Times shopping center in Honokowai and also features a full bar for a happening nightlife scene. Laid back, loved by locals, the restaurant makes Maui diners happy from 6am to 9pm daily.
