Tickets go on sale Friday, July 6 for an upcoming international hula competition,” Ku Mai Ka Hula 2012″ in the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater on Saturday, September 8 from 1 to 6 p.m.

The 7th annual competition features adult group and solo performances from some of Japan and Hawaii’s best halau. In the show, halau perform kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) hula stylings to compete in kane (male) and wahine (female) categories.

This year’s show and competition also features a performance by award-winning recording artist Keali’i Reichel and his kumu hula. Rechel presents “Hakukole,” a selection of chants, songs, and “sayings of ridicule.”

Tickets for the show are expected to sell out rather quickly because of the event’s popularity in previous years, so if you’re one of the many lovers of hula and Hawaiian culture, try and take advantage of the approaching pre-event ticket sales.

For ticket information (after Friday July 6) for Ku Mai Ka Hula 2012, contact the MACC Box Office at 242-SHOW or visit online at MauiArts.org.
