A search was launched on Tuesday night after a snorkeler went missing near the island of Molokini, officials said.
The 56-year-old man was last seen at around 5:30 p.m. wearing a white rash guard and board shorts, according to authorities.
Coast Guard officials say they received a report of the incident about 20 minutes later from the sailing vessel Gauguin.
Authorities say the man was snorkeling near Molokini crater, and went missing after he was seen struggling to swim. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to Coast Guard officials.
The Coast Guard dispatched a response boat, cutter, and dolphin helicopter crew for the overnight search.
A helicopter crew from the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety also assisted in the search.
Mariners are being asked to keep an eye out for the missing man and report any sightings to the Coast Guard.
The Molokini islet is a popular snorkeling destination for visitors and tourists, and is located Alalakeiki Channel between the islands of Maui and Kahoʻolawe.
