Mamuad’s Name to Appear on Ballot, Votes Will Not Count
By Maui Now Staff
The name of voided Maui mayoral candidate Neldon Mamuad will still appear on the primary election ballot, but votes for him will not be counted toward the end result.
The county clerk issued a proclamation on Wednesday saying the ballots had already been printed before the invalidation was upheld in circuit court.
Last month, the clerk issued a determination that Mamuad’s nomination was invalid and void because he failed to file his financial disclosure by the required deadline, a requirement mandated by County Charter.
Absentee voters will be advised of the situation and a notice will be posted at polling places throughout the county on election day, the proclamation said.
The primary election is scheduled to take place on Aug. 9, 2014.
