MPD Arrests Driver on Terrorist Threatening Charge

On Jan. 20, 2015, at approximately 7 p.m., Maui Police Department officers responded to a reckless driving incident that began in the vicinity of Honoapi‘ilani Highway at the junction of North Kīhei Road.
The two vehicles involved were Kīhei-bound, eventually meeting at the intersection at Pi‘ilani Highway.
One of the drivers contacted 911 as the vehicles continued to drive, reporting that the other driver, later identified as Marcus K. Kamali‘i, age 20, of Kula, was waiving his arms out the window in a perceived threatening manner.
While continuing southbound on the Pi‘ilani Highway, Kamali‘i was said to have brandished a pistol, and shot at the other vehicle. The pistol was later found to be a BB gun.
The other driver followed the dispatcher’s instructions and met with officers down the road.
Kamali‘i was located and met officers at the Kīhei Police Station, where he was arrested for Terroristic Threatening I. Numerous traffic offenses have been suggested as additional charges.
Kamali‘i was released pending further investigation.
No injuries or damages were reported as a result of this incident. There is no further information at this time as the investigation continues
