Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Alani Place in Happy Valley today at 12:43 p.m.

Wailuku firefighters arrived at 12:47 p.m. to find flames coming from the rear portion of a single-story home.

A battalion chief and three fire units from Wailuku and Kahului responded to the incident.

Four people had been preparing food inside the home when they smelled smoke, and found the exterior part of the home on fire. They quickly evacuated.

Fire crews had the fire under control by 1:05 p.m. and extinguished at 1:42 p.m.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages to the structure and $15,000 to its contents.

There were no injuries, and no damage to neighboring structures.

The exact cause of the blaze could not be determined.
