Texas Woman on Snorkeling Tour Dies, Pulled from Maui Waters

A 73-year-old woman from Grand Prairie,Texas died after being found face down in Maui waters while participating in a snorkeling tour over the weekend.

The incident was reported on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2015 at around 11:08 a.m.

Police have since identified the woman as Jung Aee Kim.

According to police reports, officers met with medics and personnel from the US Coast Guard after receiving a report of an unresponsive adult female at Māʻalaea Harbor.

Police say The Odyssey vessel had taken the victim and other tour group members to an area often referred to as “Turtle Town” for a day of snorkeling.

The woman was found face down in the water and was taken back on board the vessel, according to Maui police.

Authorities say a bystander began CPR as the vessel proceeded to Māʻalaea Harbor.  Police say the vessel arrived at the harbor; however, despite life-saving efforts the victim was pronounced dead.

Cause of death has not been determined and is pending autopsy results.
