Baldwin’s Kamaki Gouveia rushed for a career-high 148 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and he also returned an onside kick for a score.
The Bears put the mercy-rule running clock into effect with touchdowns on back-to-back second-half possessions. The first, on a 34-yard run by Gouveia and the second, on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Chayce Akaka to La’akea Kahoohanohano-Davis.
The Bears improved to 5-1 overall in Maui Interscholastic League play and 2-0 in the second round. The win sets up a second-round MIL Division I crown matchup with Maui High on Saturday, Sept. 17, at War Memorial Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
The Sabers beat the Bears 3-0 in their first-round meeting.
Kamehameha Maui (3-4, 1-2) won the first-round MIL D-II title.
