Here is a summary of the expected weather conditions for Maui County as Madeline approaches and affects Hawaii County. Meteorologist Malika Dudley will be doing LIVE weather updates on our MauiNow.com Facebook page.  Here is a link to the 5 p.m. video forecast.

WIND: 
TROPICAL STORM WARNING – Maui County and coastal waters
*Wednesday night – Northeast 25 -35 mph, gusting to 50 mph in some spots
*Thursday – East 20 – 35 mph +
Thursday night into Friday: Back to normal trade wind weather.

Wind gusts of 46 mph have been observed at Maalaea Bay and kaupo. The strongest wind gusts observed today in Maui county was 48 mph on Kahoolawe. Gusts will be strongest over mountainous terrain, through passes, and where winds blow downslope. Loose items, such as garbage cans and outdoor furniture, will be blown around. Newly planted or young trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured properly. Isolated power outages will be possible.

RAIN: 
3 – 5″ with maximums of 10″ in some windward spots
Tonight we expect mostly cloudy skies with an increase in showers for windward areas and to a lesser extent for leeward areas.

East Maui, peaking later tonight at 12 – 18 foot faces / West Maui and East Molokai 5 – 9 foot faces
