Update 9 p.m. – All Flood Alerts Have Been Cancelled

All flood alerts have been cancelled.

The National Weather Service has CONTINUED the FLOOD ADVISORY for MAUI ISLAND in effect until 8:45 p.m.

A Flood Advisory means that nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent. A Flood Advisory may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.

This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.

EFFECTS: At 6:30 p.m., radar showed heavy rain still affecting windward areas from Hana to Huelo and near Honokohau. Additional areas of heavy rain were developing around Makena and Ulupalakua. Most of the areas of heavy rain were nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Kanaha Beach Park, Waikapu, Waihee, Waiehu, Ukumehame Beach Park, Spreckelsville, Puunene, Pukalani, Pauwela, Paia, Olowalu, Napili, Nahiku, Lahaina, Kipahulu, Kihei, Keokea, Keanae, Kapalua, Kahului, Kahakuloa, Kaanapali, Huelo, Hookipa Beach Park, Honolua, Honokowai, Hamoa, Haliimaile and Haiku.

The Flood Advisory for Maui has been extended to 8:45 p.m. Heavy rain is still affecting many windward spots and upslope areas on the leeward side.

Radar showed this rainfall falling from Hana to Huelo and near Honokohau. Areas of heavy rain were also developing around Makena and Ulupalakua.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kanaha Beach, Waikapu, Waihee, Waiehu, Ukumehame, Spreckelsville, Puunene, Pukalani, Pauwela, Paia, Olowalu, Napili, Nahiku, Lahaina, Kipahulu, Kihei, Keokea, Keanae, Kapalua, Kahului, Kahakuloa, Kaanapali, Huelo, Hookipa, Honolua, Honokowai, Hamoa, Haliimaile and Haiku.

A Flash Flood Warning has been replaced by a Flood Advisory for the Island of Maui.  The National Weather Service cancelled the Warning and replaced it with a Flood Advisory, that will remain in effect until 6:45 p.m.

At 3:42 p.m., the NWS states that radar and rain gauges showed moderate rain occurring over portions of the island, with the most significant rainfall reported along the Honoapiʻilani Highway between Wailuku and Waiheʻe, and along the south-facing slopes of Haleakalā from Kaupō to ʻUlupalakua. 

Forecasters with the NWS say rainfall is expected to diminish around sunset.

Meantime, a Flood Advisory that was in effect for Lānaʻi has since been cancelled.

Maui Under Flood Warning:

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Maui until 4 p.m. At 1 p.m., radar showed very heavy thunderstorms that were nearly stationary near Kula and Kīhei.

Other heavy showers were located over the east and south slopes of Haleakalā and over the south and west slopes of the West Maui Mountains.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to: Waikapū, Pukalani, Nāhiku, Makawao, Māʻalaea, Lahaina, Kīhei, Keʻanae, Honokōwai and Hāna.

Lānaʻi Under Flood Advisory

A Flood Advisory has also been issued for the island of Lānaʻi until 4:15 p.m.

At 1:06 p.m., the National Weather Service says radar showed heavy downpours over the interior of the island near Lānaʻi City.
