Mariners Advised of Strong Winds and Rough Seas
By Wendy Osher
Mariners are being advised of windy conditions in waters around Maui and the Big Island.
The National Weather Service issued a small craft advisory for Maalaea Bay, the Pailolo and Alenuihaha Channels, as well as leeward and south east waters around the Big Island.
Forecasters say locally strong trade winds will bring northeast to east winds of 25 knots and seas of 6 to 12 feet to affected areas.
The conditions are considered hazardous for small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels are advised to avoid navigating in these conditions.
The small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
