A large northwest swell will create hazardous seas for mariners in Hawaiian waters through today.

The National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, with seas of over 10 feet expected for most Hawaiian coastal waters.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots are expected with seas of 10 feet or greater.

Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Areas under the advisory include: Kauai northwest waters; Kauai windward waters; Kauai leeward waters; Kauai Channel; Oahu windward waters; Oahu leeward waters; Kaiwi Channel; Maui County windward waters; Maui County leeward waters; Pilolo Channel; Alenuihaha Channel; Big Island windward waters; Big Island leeward waters; Big Island southeast waters.
