$500,000 RELEASED FOR HANA HARBOR DEVELOPMENT PLAN
A half-a-million dollars was released today for a development plan to improve Hana Harbor.
The funds are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s six-year Harbors Modernization Plan, and is in addition to the $1.8 billion public infrastructure construction plan unveiled by the Governor in December to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
“Hana Harbor serves as a vital link for area residents,” said Governor Lingle. “This development plan is the first step in identifying Hana’s vision for its harbor and ensuring that the needs of the remote Hana community are met well into the future.”
The development plan will consider improvements to the existing commercial pier, infrastructure, and conceptual planning. It is also expected to incorporate site planning, environmental and cultural reviews, a traffic study, and the identification of necessary development permits.
The total project cost is estimated to be $20 million with the development plan scheduled to begin in June 2009 and set for completion in October 2009. The plan is being conducted by the DOT Harbors Division in partnership with its implementing agency, the Aloha Tower Development Corporation.
