The campground in the Kipahulu section of Haleakala National Park will reopen on Friday, September 11, 2009.  The National Park Service completed refurbishment of the campground at Kipahulu, including improvement to the facilities available to campers.  Improvements were funded by Haleakala’s entrance fees, allowing the Park Service to give back to the visitors who use the park.  Visitors to the site will now be able to experience improved parking, new picnic tables, and free standing grills.  Camping is still first come first served.  There is a $10 entrance fee to enter into Haleakala National Park, but camping is free.  Park officials say they are happy to once again provide camping opportunities in East Maui.
