The county’s planning committee will meet today for the first in a series of community public meetings on the Maui Island Plan.  The document is the second element of the County’s General Plan.  Review of the first element, the countywide policy plan, is complete and has been forwarded to the full council for action.  Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center.

A separate public hearing is planned on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber.  Testimony will be excepted as the council seeks to establish long term goals outlined in the plan.

The Maui Island Plan is a regional planning tool, covering Maui’s six community plan areas, and is a new component of the General Plan update process that was established by the Council in 2004.
