The state will host a public informational meeting tonight, Thursday, July 8, 2010, on the proposed Maui Regional Public Safety Complex (MRPSC).  The new jail, proposed for development on 40-acres of land in Puunene, is intended to alleviate overcrowding at the existing 7-acre Maui Community Correctional Center facility in Wailuku, and also meet future growth of the inmate population.  The facility would accommodate male and female offenders originating from the County of Maui.  The public meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Maui Waena Intermediate School Cafeteria (795 Onehee Avenue Kahului, Maui, HI 96732).

The meeting will be conducted by the State of Hawaii, Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS).  DAGS, on behalf of the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety (PSD), is proposing to develop the public safety complex.

For more information regarding the meeting, call Mr. Tyler Fujiyama at (808) 586-0463. Any person requiring special accessibility or communication accommodations may contact Mr. Fujiyama before Thursday, July 1, 2010.
