Rainy Weather to Persist into the Weekend

Maui is under a flood advisory until 8:15 this morning. At around 5 a.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rain continuing over the windward and southeast portions of Maui. Stream gauges also increased along windward areas of the island.

The advisory includes Ke’anae, Wailuku, Waihee, Waiehu, Spreckelsville, Puunene, Pauwela, paia, Kahakuloa, Huelo, Pukalani, Haiku and Kipahulu.

The National Weather Service advises the public to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff can make driving hazardous due to ponding, reduced visibility, and poor braking action. Motorists and pedestrians should not cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.

The forecast calls for the possibility of isolated thunderstorms through the weekend and into next week. Breezy, wet trade wind weather will persist through Saturday. Forecasters with the National Weather Service say high pressure is providing the trades, while instability aloft is providing conditions for enhanced showers.
