A brush fire in a cane field on Maui’s North Shore burned an estimated 10 acres overnight.  The fire was first reported at 1:22 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 in a Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company cane field located along Baldwin Avenue, between Paia Elementary School and Rainbow County Park.

Workers from HC&S helped the fire department battle the blaze, which was brought under control by 3:30 a.m.

Fire department officials said the sugar cane that burned was close to harvest and that HC&S may be able to salvage some of their crop.
