Savor the Sunset

There’s something special about that unique scent in libraries. In the age of electronic readers and Kindles, an actual book with all its paper pages, expressions of font, hardcovers, soft covers and leather bound tomes with gold leaf letters and hand etched pictures, have fallen into the category of antiquated. Yet, there are places where the physical book is still loved, revered and cherished. Where giggles and story-time is an everyday occurrence, and out of print, hard to find treasures are available to all; for free.

On July 14, the Royal Lahaina Resort oceanside at Ka’anapali Beach and the Rotary Club of Lahaina are throwing a benefit for one such place that holds creativity, imagination, possibility, history, and knowledge, captive and bound to paper.

The Lahaina Public Library has provided sanctuary for so many seeking refuge in the pages of books. Located on Front Street in Lahaina, this 55 year old library serves more than 5,000 people each year. With so many people coming and going through their doors, it’s no wonder that this house of books needs a bit of a face-lift. A few wrinkles, some superficial wear and tear, and maybe some more serious refurbishing will be purchased from the proceeds of this benefit.
