There are treasures to be found inside our trash, in addition to glass bottles, paper, and plastic materials that should be making their way to the recycling center instead of our landfill.

On Wednesday, July 13th, join the University of Hawaii Maui College and the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui for their first ever Dumpster Dive. If you want to get a first hand look at all the waste that really isn’t waste, now is your chance.

No diving is required. In fact, participants will sort through trash discarded in the UHMC dumpster and determine how much recyclable material was needlessly discarded.

The event will be lead by Brenda Starcher, a SLIM intern and the event is open to students, faculty, and community members.  Suits and gloves will be provided.

 Date: Wednesday, July 13
Time: 8:00-12:00
Location: Behind Pilina Bldg

Participants are asked to RSVP with Brenda at starcher@hawaii.edu.
