By Wendy Osher
A federally funded $1.14 million project is underway at Kahului Airport on Maui.
The project includes a complete re-wiring of the runway lights and taxiway light circuits. Officials with the state Department of Transportation say the taxiway lights are being changed to LED energy efficient lighting.
The airfield maintenance work on Runway-2/20 will result in a temporary modification to flight patterns this weekend, between midnight and 5 a.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2012.
During this time, increased air traffic can be expected over Kahului, Wailuku and Spreckelsville.
According to DOT authorities, the anticipated project completion date is May 2012.
