Kahului Airport Runway Closure for Maintenance
By Wendy Osher
Ongoing airfield maintenance at Runway 2-20 in Kahului will result in increased air traffic over Kahului, Wailuku and Spreckelsville this weekend.
The maintenance is part of a federally funded $1.14 million project encompassing a complete re-wiring of the runway lights and taxiway lights circuits. The taxiway lights are being changed to LED energy efficient lights.
The work will result in the closure of Runway 2-20 between midnight and 5 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2011. During this time, flight patterns will be modified, resulting in increased air traffic over the aforementioned locations.
The anticipated project completion date is May of 2012.
