Maui’s newest resort property, the Andaz Maui, hosted a grand opening celebration over the Labor Day weekend at its 15-acre beachfront property in Wailea.
The Andaz Maui at Wailea is located along Mokapu Beach on the site that once housed the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort.
According to company literature, the new resort will offer 297 guestrooms and suites, a 14,000-square-foot spa, and two full service restaurants.
One of the restaurants, Morimoto Maui, is run by acclaimed chef Masaharu Morimoto, known for his role in Iron Chef and Iron Chef America.
Company officials say the property captures the spirit and feel of today’s Hawaii, and aims to be Hawaii’s first LEED certified resort.
In a press release issued following the Grand Opening event, Michael Stephens, general manager of Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort & Spa said, “As we welcome guests from around the world, we aim to connect them to Wailea’s rich history through unique, local experiences that truly make for an unforgettable stay.”
Sara Kearney, senior vice president of brands for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts also issued a statement saying, “The most important characteristic of Andaz is to be deeply rooted in the local culture, infusing it throughout the guest experience. Andaz hotels in resort locations will continue to bring this to life,” she said.
Kearney continued saying, “Maui provides a great preview for what guests can expect from upcoming Andaz in resort destinations, including Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica, which will open later this year.”
