Vehicle Over 100 Foot Cliff in Deadly Kahakuloa Crash

A female suffered fatal injuries in a single-vehicle crash in which a vehicle dropped 100-feet down a cliff in Kahakuloa, Maui.
The incident was reported at 1:44 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 near mile post 10 of the Kahekili Highway.
Crews from Engine-1 out of Wailuku and Rescue-10 out of Kahului responded to the scene where personnel discovered a white BMW convertible about 100-feet down the cliff side, according to Maui Fire Captain Kris Sakamoto.
Authorities say the vehicle was inaccessible from the top of the cliff.
Rescue-10 personnel, utilizing the department’s Air-1 helicopter, made access to the scene where crews found the body of a female with obvious signs of death within the vehicle, said Capt. Sakamoto.
The recovery of the body is pending a police department investigation.
