Slurry Seal Work Starts in Wailuku Heights, Dec. 15 to 19
By Maui Now Staff
The County of Maui Department of Public Works announced that its Highways Division will be applying slurry sealing on South Alu Road in Wailuku Heights next week.
The project is part of the county’s pavement preservation program. Work will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, Dec. 15 to 19, 2014.
County officials say slurry sealing is designed to extend the life of the road, save money for taxpayers, and provide a safe, driveable road for the public.
Department officials say the slurry seal serves to protect the top layer of asphalt from oxidation and wear caused by exposure to the sun, air, water and chemicals such as oil and gasoline.
Motorists are asked to be aware of traffic control personnel and to expect delays as traffic will be restricted to a single lane during road work.
Access to driveways in affected areas will not be available due to a drying time of approximately 4 to 6 hours.
Temporary walkways will be provided in designated areas.
