Makawao Man Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Burglary, Firearm Theft

A Makawao man was arrested in Kaupō this week for his alleged involvement in a burglary and firearm theft case.

Hāna Patrol Officers responded to the report of a suspicious male at the Kaupō Store at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.

Police say the suspect was wanted for questioning by police regarding a burglary case were a firearm was stolen.

While en route to Kaupō, officers were advised that the man was being detained by Haleakalā National Park Rangers.  Upon police arrival it was discovered that the man was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm in connection with the burglary case.

The suspect, Devon Traxinger, 45, was subsequently placed under arrest by Hāna patrol officers and charged with the following offenses: failure to register firearm; permit to acquire a firearm; place to keep pistol; first degree burglary; first degree theft (firearm); and failure to appear.

Police say Taxinger is being held at the Maui County Correctional Center in lieu of $15,600 bail.

Sergeant Edith Quintero of the Hāna Patrol District said the apprehension and subsequent arrest was a cumulative effort of the Kaupō community working together with the Maui Police Department and the National Park Service.
